The Belgian Hand Therapists or B.H.T. is the scientific associety for hand therapists in Belgium.
Initially, when the association was founded on August 25th 1983 by BAUDOUX Jean-Marie,, CREVECOEUR Yvette, DETONGRE Francis, en OTTHIERS Jacques, it was called “Association pour la révalidation de la main – A.R.M.”
Six years later, 14th December 1989, the general assembly agreed on changing the name to “Belgian Hand Therapists" - "B.H.T”.
The BHT is a full member of the European Federation for Societies of Hand therapy' (EFSHT) and the International federation of Societies for Hand Therapy '(IFSHT).
Our members are a mixture of physical -and occupational therapists and orthotists have a additional big interest for the treatment of hand pathologies and the rehabilitation after a hand trauma. Each member is supposed to stay “up to date” on the evolutions within this specific field of rehabilitation.
In order to come up to the hand surgeons’ expectations about the specific knowledge and treatment skills needed in hand therapy the executive committee of the B.H.T. has created a three-level certification. In order to receive one of the 3 certification titles basic hand therapist, advanced or certified hand therapist, specific criteria need to be obtained.
My name is Rozemie Zenner, though most people know me as Roosje. I am a physiotherapist and have specialised in manual therapy of the upper limb and neck, as well as in several advanced hand therapy programmes.
I have been working at the Hand Rehabilitation Department of UZ Ghent since 2007, where I focus on helping patients regain hand function and independence in their daily activities. Hands are truly my passion, and I find great fulfilment in supporting people and making a meaningful difference in their everyday lives.
Since 2015, I have been an active member of the board of the Belgian Hand Therapists, and for several years I have had the privilege of serving as its president.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time in nature, birdwatching, and attending a weekly Zumba class. I am also a proud mother of two children.
I am graduated as Master in Physiotherapy and Motor Rehabilitation at the University of Ghent (1997). I am married and have 2 children. In the past I was a gymnast for many years and became Acro Gym trainer. At the moment, I am a long distance runner and train tree times a week.
My interest in hand therapy was sparked through close collaboration with a hand surgeon. Over the years, I have completed numerous courses, advanced trainings and conferences related to hand rehabilitation.
I am a certified Belgian Hand Therapist. I founded my own group practice, Hands4you in 2001. I also work as a self-employed hand therapist at AZ Sint-Lucas Hospital in Ghent. I am a lecturer at ACREHAB and SmartEducation and facilitate courses on wrist and hand pathologies. Furthermore, I am a member of the certification committee of the professional association Belgian Hand Therapists (BHT). My mantra is 'One Recovery Goal', emphasizing shared objectives between all parties involved in the rehabilitation process, patients and medical professionals. I strongly believe in a multidisciplinary approach and close collaboration between experts.
My name is Nele Vervloesem, and I have been working as a physiotherapist since 2010. From the very beginning of my career, I have developed a strong interest in hand rehabilitation, driven by the complexity of the hand and the essential role hands play in almost every aspect of daily life. I currently work as a self-employed physiotherapist in a private practice.
Since 2015, I have been a member of the Belgian Hand Therapists (BHT), an association I highly value for its commitment to quality, expertise and lifelong learning. Within the BHT, I am part of the certification committee, where I am actively involved in promoting both the quality and accessibility of hand therapy. I strongly believe it is important that patients have easy access to specialised care and that therapists are supported in their professional development.
Outside of my professional activities, I enjoy running. This passion reflects my belief in the power of movement and in the importance of discipline, motivation and perseverance—values that are also reflected in my therapeutic work.
I am a Certified Belgian Hand Therapist (occupational therapist) and currently serve as Secretary of the Belgian Hand Therapists Association. My work sits at the intersection of clinical reasoning, craftsmanship, and innovation in upper-limb rehabilitation.
I run Hand2Hand, a practice and workshop where we design and manufacture custom hand and arm orthoses in a wide range of materials, including low-temperature thermoplastics, 3D-printed polymers, silicone, and silver. Collaborating closely with surgeons, rheumatologists, physiotherapists, and patients has taught me that great splinting is as much about listening and empathy as it is about biomechanics and precision.
Within the Association, I am committed to fostering collaboration, dialogue, and continuous professional development for hand therapists across Belgium and internationally. I strongly believe that sharing knowledge, questioning established routines, and embracing innovation are essential to improving care for people with hand and upper-limb conditions.
Personally, I am energized by combining my professional passion with an active lifestyle. I enjoy running, rowing on my ergometer, and I love spending time in my vegetable garden with my family and our dog, Leo.
Hi, I’m Caroline Meulyzer. Since early 2020, I’ve been serving as International Delegate and Treasurer for the Belgian Hand Therapists.
I’ve been working at University Hospitals Leuven since 2011, where I’m involved in hand therapy consultations in hand orthopedics and traumatology, as well as in the burn center.
My main clinical interests include the burned hand, Dupuytren’s disease, and severe hand trauma. I’m particularly drawn to the complex and phased treatment these conditions require. My research activities focus on Dupuytren’s disease. Alongside my commitment to BHT and the hospital, I’m active as an organizer of the ‘Postacademische Vorming Handrevalidatie’ at KU Leuven.
And yes, my passion for hand therapy is real, I happily travel 100 km from faraway West Flanders for work that’s so close to my heart. I’m truly grateful that my role on the board allows me to help strengthen collaboration, professional practice, and education in hand rehabilitation across Europe.
I am a certified hand therapist and owner of KINEKA, my private physiotherapy practice in Merksem (Antwerp), which I have run with great passion since 2000. I graduated as a Bachelor in Physiotherapy in 1993 at the Coloma Institute in Mechelen.
Sport has always played an important role in my life. Competing in tennis and softball sparked my interest in human movement and led me to physiotherapy.
Between 2016 and 2025, I combined my private practice with a part-time position at ZAS Palfijn Hospital in Merksem, focusing on shoulder and hand rehabilitation. Close collaboration with surgeons and continuous training in Belgium and the Netherlands strengthened this expertise. Since October 2025, I work full-time in my practice and continue to invest in education and international congresses.
I am delighted to join the BHT board as Symposium Coordinator. In this role, I am committed to contributing to high-quality scientific meetings by helping to select inspiring speakers and building strong collaborations with sponsors, with the aim of offering valuable and engaging symposia for our members.
My name is Aline Roman. I’m a physiotherapist with a master in both pediatrics and musculoskeletal disorders. After completing my final internship, I was fortunate to join the Hand Rehabilitation team at UZ Ghent in 2017, where I treat patients with a wide range of upper-limb injuries, both after surgery and through conservative treatment. Since 2024, I have also been part of Praktijk De Knok in Melsen.
During my studies, I acquired basic sign language skills. Although I’m not fluent, I strive to support patients with hearing impairment as best as I can.
Since May 2025 I have taken on the role of webmaster for the BHT where I manage website-related issues, oversee membership renewals and help newly certified members to be visible on our website. The steady growth in members is truly a joyful development. Through our socials (facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn), I also work to enhance the visibility of the BHT and build a strong network. Any suggestions are welcome!
Outside of my job you can always find me bird watching, reading, walking or getting lost in yet another creative mini-project.
